Abstract:
American writer Kurt Vonnegut wrote his masterpiece Slaughterhouse-Five based on his experience of the great booming of Dreston during the World War Ⅱ. This paper studies the two lines of traumatic recovery: the narrator and the protagonist, and the different behaviors of the protagonist in two worlds: the reality and the vision. Through studying from a perspective of trauma, this essay finds that Slaughterhouse-Five is the embodiment of Vonnegut's call for humanism. By depicting the process of traumatic narration of the narrator and the protagonist, Vonnegut expresses his lament over the American dominant value which is lack of humanism, and his expectation of building a world filled with humane spirits.
